Northern Desert Horned Lizard

I was riding from Bone Spring toward Mickey Hot Springs when a tiny dinosaur scampered across the road. I nearly crashed stopping to see her because it has been many years since I’ve seen a “horny toad.” This one is the biggest I’ve ever seen at nearly six inches from nose to tip of tail. She obliged me by posing for a few photos with no fuss, including allowing me to catch her, before making her way back to the sagebrush and rocks.

Perfectly adapted to their environment, these critters are nearly invisible from a distance
