At Goose Lake State Park

Goose Lake State Park’s campground was probably the most peaceful of all our stops. This quiet, spacious, well-treed campground has trails to the lake, lots of grass, and plenty of birds and wildlife everywhere. This campground also wins the award for “best view from the rear window.” Nowhere else this month did we spy deer walking a few feet from our trailer.

White Faced Ibis

The lake itself is a shallow, brownish affair, and we were here in a bit of the off-season, so there were not too many varieties of birds to see. We did, at least, see a few Canada geese. The access road goes from the campground all the way to the water’s edge. Even though there were not scads of birds, we saw some white-faced ibis, swallows, mallards, red-winged blackbirds, and a few other fowl.
