Fresh Kokanee at Paulina Lake

Ben tries his hand at driving the boat. Well done!

Our first fishing day of the trip was a success! We woke up at the crack of dawn to head up to the Newberry crater and Paulina Lake. It was a beautiful day, and we even managed to catch half a dozen fish. We used jigs in the lake’s deep water to hook the fish. There were a number of boats on the lake, but from talking to the other fisherpersons on the way out, and overhearing our next-door neighbors back at the La Pine campground, we were part of the lucky few who didn’t get skunked. Ben and dad caught fish, but, unfortunately, John was not able to catch one today. We’ll try Crane Prairie Reservoir tomorrow.
