Crane Prairie Reservoir, Where the Scenery Sometimes Beats the Fishing

From the little island

Maybe we woke up a little too early this morning.

John’s posture sums up the action on the lake today.

Since we had good luck at Paulina Lake yesterday, we figured we’d jump in the truck early again this morning. We left at about 6:30 and had arrived at Crane Prairie by 7:00. The kind lady at the lakeside shop then let us know that, “It’s a mid-day lake.” Oops. Well, we headed out in the rental boat anyway, and had a long day with no action. We finally pulled out at about 1 pm. Midday, schmidday. I don’t think the fishing’s good anymore at Crane Prairie, the place where I caught my very first trout when I was about six. If you know how to catch fish there, drop me a comment.

It was still an absolutely beautiful, hot summer day. We cruised around the lake a bit, ate lunch on big rock, and headed back to the trailer to enjoy one last evening of relaxation before returning home.
